I started Footprints charity in loving memory of my sister Catherine. She was a devout Christian and always put other peoples needs first. Catherine left this earth on Easter Monday 2000 and on the anniversary of her passing this year I was overwhelmed with the need to start a charity to put some good into the world in her honour.
So here we are!
We work with partner charities who are already established in Uganda and need additional funding for projects and initiatives they would like to implement for the community of children and adults that they support.
Why are we called footprints? There are several reasons:
1. We want to help adults & children to receive an education or learn new skills so they can access basic needs and create their own footprints on this earth.
2. Some people come into your life and leave whilst others leave footprints all over your heart. My mission is that the supporters of Footprints are able to leave footprints on the hearts of the people we help.
3. One of my favourite poems is Footprints in the sand:
One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."
He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you."
So footprints is now officially launched!
Watch this space for upcoming events as we already have a request to provide much needed resources, generally the simple things we have in our everyday lives that we often take for granted and can't imagine would not be accessible.
In case you are wondering......these are the Footprints of my family, they represent growth, from the youngest to the eldest, and this is what Footprints aims to do for others.... help them grow.
